Worship

“When Christians gather to worship God on the Lord’s Day, they take part in the most meaningful, significant, and wonderful activity possible.” - Jon D. Payne, In the Splendor of Holiness

“Worship is the workshop where we are transformed into His image.” - Hughes Oliphant Old, Worship: Reformed according to Scripture

What is Worship?

Biblical worship is God-centered, not human-centric; therefore it is not about being entertaining or simply making one feel good. Certainly the true believer will be refreshed by God’s mercies in worship, but the goal above all is to glorify God.

We believe that God gathers us in worship so that He may speak to His covenant people through the reading and preaching of the Word and through the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  In response to His mercies, we pray, sing and give thanks.

So if you are looking for worship that is reverential, biblically rooted, and Christ-centered, come worship with us this Sunday!

Music

Worship and music are not synonymous; music is a part of worship. The primary role of music in our worship service is to support congregational singing. The congregation is gathered to praise the Lord and the musicians play to glorify God.

We sing music from centuries old hymns, classic hymns of the Reformation to new music. We wish to avoid the mistake of romanticizing any point of musical history, be it past or present. Using a variety of songs to praise the Lord helps us to both honor the past and embrace the time in which we live.

The Sacraments

The Sacraments are visible signs of love and assurances of God’s promises that He has given to HIs people, the Church. They direct our faith to Christ, assure us of His faithfulness, and call on us to live for Him.

All of this is a gift for His church; in Baptism the party is welcomed into the covenant community of the visible church, in the Lord’s Supper that community is nourished spiritually.

If you are visiting when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, should you partake?

We invite all who trust in Christ for salvation, who are baptized and are in good fellowship with a Bible-believing church to participate with us.

The Collection

During worship we give to God out of gratitude. The Bible encourages believers to give with a cheerful heart rather than out of duty or compulsion (2 Corinthians 9:7), but the financial support of the ministry here at Christ Church is the privilege and responsibility of our members. So as our guests and visitors, please feel free to give, or not give, as you feel led.
